THogan.com Adventures In Information Systems Engineering

Cookbook

The cookbook is a project to create a guide for all aspects of building a thorough and supportable infrastructure for Linux based servers.  The goal is to create a set of documentation that can be used as a checklist for building or improving a Linux environment.  Each chapter will cover one broad area of engineering, such as virtualization, backups, or monitoring.

These areas will be covered with as much separation as possible between concept and example implementation.  The conceptual information will give an engineer or architect a path to follow for fulfilling a certain infrastructure need.  The example implementations will provide instructions for creating a complete and thorough working solution.  These example implementations will be based largely on the software I use, while the conceptual documentation will avoid referencing or explaining specific software or platforms.

Recent Updates

  • 2010-09-07 - Project description page created.  No content yet.  It will probably be several months until some of the chapters fill out with anything useful.  I will be defining the chapters within a couple weeks

The Linux Infrastructure Cookbook

The chapters will be enumerated and described here.  This should be completed before December 2010.
